At St Madeleine's we offer our students the opportunity to participate in many different sports and events.
Sport at our school is about participation, teamwork, healthy lifestyle choices, skill development and, above all, fun.
All children are encouraged to become involved at a level with which they feel comfortable, and to extend this involvement to realise the potential harboured within each individual. Those children who exhibit particular talents in sport have access to representative sports at a number of levels, from school through to national.
We take part in all zone carnivals for Swimming, Cross-Country and Athletics. For these events, the children have the opportunity to represent at Zone, Diocesan and State levels.
Various sports carnivals take place throughout the year and provide students with the opportunity to compete at a school level, with the opportunity to then represent the school at Zone, Diocesan and State levels.
This event is held in Term 1. All the children from Years 3 - 6 participate. Children in Year 2 who turn 8 in the calendar year and can competently swim 50 metres are also eligible to participate. There are novelty events to cater for beginner swimmers. Children in Infants who are not competing remain at school on the day of the swimming carnival.
Also held during Term 1, the children undergo training in the weeks leading up to the event by gradually building on the distance they run. The Cross Country is held on a school day and all children from Kindergarten to Year 6 are expected to participate in this event.
All children from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in the athletics carnival. The children may nominate to participate in longer distance races or field events such as long jump, discus, shot-put etc. The carnival is held late Term 2 or early Term 3.
In each of these areas, children have the opportunity to compete against other schools at the Zone carnival.
